In the past, the CDC advised those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to wait at least 14 days before getting their flu vaccine. These days are no longer!
In fact, you can get a COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines, including a flu vaccine, during the same visit! Our AFC Urgent Care Fountain City team further elaborates below, so keep reading.
Is It OK to Get Both Vaccines at the Same Time?
Yes, it is. The CDC states that experience with other vaccines has shown that the body’s immune response and possible side effects after getting the COVID-19 vaccine are generally the same when given alone or with other vaccines.
If you’re worried about developing serious side effects, don’t be. Medical experts say that if you typically experience side effects after getting the flu vaccine, you’ll probably experience the same side effects a tad bit more intensely when getting both the COVID-19 and flu vaccines at the same time. The side effects will wear off after a few days, though.
Common Vaccine Side Effects
- Pain, redness or swelling on the arm vaccinated
- Muscle pain
Do I Still Need to Get the COVID-19 Vaccine If I’ve Already Had COVID-19?
Yes, you should. Even if you’ve already had it in the past, research shows that those that are fully vaccinated are better protected than those that have had the virus.
Not only is getting vaccinated important for your own personal health, but it lowers your risk of transmitting the virus to others. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is an important component of beating the virus and limiting the amount of variants that develop. In addition to getting your vaccine, we’ve listed some ways you can stay healthy as winter approaches.
More Ways to Stay Healthy This Winter

- If you don’t have access to soap and water, use alcohol-rich hand sanitizer.
